Twofour's new property series, Britain's Dream Homes, starts its three week run on Monday 11 Febrary going out daily at 5.15pm. Throughout the series presenters Melissa Porter and Rhodri Owen search the length and breadth of Britain to find their choice of Britain’s dreamiest homes on the property market in three price brackets; a quarter of a million, half a million, and finally the million pound plus range. But will it be Rhodri or Melissa’s choice that gets their overall vote for what they think is Britain’s dream home on the market? The programmes in the first week are:
Thatched - Monday 11 February
To be contenders in the thatched property contest, the location needs to be the idyllic rural retreat, whilst not being too isolated. It it has to be a ‘picture book home, comfortable, cosy, full of history and character’. To be good value, it needs to be a sure-fire investment, with jaw-dropping renovations. Melissa and Rhodr's search takes them to areas like Cheshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Devon to name but a few, all beautiful areas with a tradition of growing the necessary crop for thatch, but which house, in which price category, will win out at the end of the show?
Manor Homes - Tuesday 12 February
In this show Melissa and Rhodri have very grand ambitions, as they search for their choice of Britain’s Dream Manor Home with their manicured lawns and formal gardens, ceiling roses and original fire-places are found, along with other tell-tale features. Rhodri is very excited about an apartment he finds in Whimple, where no expense has been spared, and Melissa finds a beautifully restored property in Worcestershire, but can they compete with a grade one listed manor home in Kent?
Barns - Wednesday 13 February
This episode sees Melissa and Rhodri trying to pin down the perfect Barn-conversion. They are looking for somewhere that feels agricultural and sits well in its surroundings, somewhere with land, and rural but with a contemporary twist, and stylish renovations as well as investment winners. Their search once again takes them all over the country. Melissa finds a little gem that scores well on the checklist in Worcestershire, but can it compete with Rhodri’s £1 million plus house in the heart of Kent, moved timber by timber to its location to save it from demolition?
Churches - Thursday 14 February
Ecclesiastical details are paramount in today’s episode, as Rhodri Owen and Melissa Porter scour the land, and put each other to the test, to find Britain’s Dream church conversion, within three price brackets. Guided by their criteria of; where a home is (is it a great location?), why it’s a contender, (what classic features does it have that mark it out as a desirable example?) and what’s it worth? (What do you get for your money?), they find amazing examples. Rhodri finds an award-winning conversion in Hampshire with garden, decking and memorial mosaics, while Melissa finds a home covered in stained-glass windows. Can either of these contend with the great final example that they find, though?
Georgian - Friday 15 February
The search, and the contest, goes on today, as Melissa Porter and Rhodri Owen hunt for Britain’s Dream Georgian Home, in three different price brackets; up to £250,000, up to £500,00 and £1 million plus. In accordance with their criteria, they are looking for terraces and detached town houses, and require eighteenth century houses with a twist on classic Greek and Roman architecture, not mock Georgian. Rhodri tracks down the first house in Cheltenham to have electricity, on the same street that composer Gustav Holtz once lived, while Melissa finds the oldest house in its village, with flagstone floor and walk-in pantry, both great examples. However how will these contend with the £1 million plus house, which boasts gardens designed by Capability Brown, among other fantastic features?
