(2010) 4 x 60’ for ITV1
Road Warriors is a ground-breaking observational series following the men and women who do one of the world’s most dangerous jobs – delivering supplies and equipment to frontline troops in war-torn Afghanistan.
The Taliban have stated their intention to kill ‘anyone inside any truck carrying goods to the occupation forces’ and the convoys face constant attack via landmines, I.E.D’s, rocket propelled grenades, suicide bombers, snipers and full on ambushes.
Twofour secured extensive access with the MOD to film in Afghanistan during their busiest time of the year, known as ‘the fighting season’, which was in June and July of this year when tragically 26 British soldiers lost their lives.
The Road Warriors were followed over many months in Afghanistan as they clocked up ‘war miles’ navigating lush valleys, harsh deserts, volcanic mountain ranges, swaying opium fields and bombed out villages amid the intolerable heat of the Afghan summer, encountering both friendly and hostile locals along the way.
The series features the camaraderie and emotion within the group as they deal with thoughts of being killed or injured in action along with everyday worries about money, home and relationships
