Competitive eating, the sport of champions in the USA and Japan, is virtually unheard of in the UK. The Big Eat is a one-off documentary that investigates the origins of this strange sport and searches for a British challenger to take on the best in the world. Once crowned, the UK champ is flown to Japan to meet and train with the world record holder (53.5 hot dogs in 12 minutes) before competing in the famous US Hot Dog Eating Championships in New York. But has he bitten off more than he can chew?
