TWOFOUR TO MAKE BRITAIN'S BEST DRIVES WITH RICHARD WILSON FOR BBC FOUR more...
TWOFOUR’S THE BARON, FOR ITV1, HAS FIRED UP THE CRITICS more...
It is estimated that 65% of UK industry is made up of family businesses.
Less than a third of these are passed on to the next generation.
Twofour is making a pilot for BBC TWO about small family businesses. It will explore why so few children of business owners want to take over the reigns of the companies founded by their fathers and forefathers.
Family companies provide around 42% of all private sector jobs in the UK. They also provide £73 BILLION in taxes to the exchequer. Clearly the family business sector is of massive importance to the UK economy and more needs to be done to ensure the success of the next generation taking over these businesses.
However, a study just carried out by the BusinessLink found that the next generation often don’t want to take over the business because they feel they won’t be paid fairly, they want to be free of family influence and a fear they’ll lose their identity. When this is the case, businesses are either sold on to a third party or simply shut down at a massive cost to the UK’s economy.
We are keen to speak to business owners all over the UK who run all sorts of businesses: from butchers to builders, farmers to printers, corner shops to car dealerships. Their kids will be given another chance to look at the business. Are they sure they don’t want to take over the family firm? SEEKING HOTELS DESPERATE FOR A HELPING HAND...
The third series of The Hotel Inspector was broadcast on Five, attracting 2 million viewers in its prime time slot, the best rating original programme in their schedule. In each hour-long episode of The Hotel Inspector, we follow the Hotel Inspector as they help to improve the fortunes of one hotel. Last series we helped a range of hotels, from a hotel whose novice owners were in dire need of help having brought it to the brink of bankruptcy; to a prestigious hotel whose owner wanted help in attracting a new kind of clientele.
Following the success of the series, Twofour Broadcast have been commissioned to make a fourth series and are looking for new hotels that could do with some help from our trouble shooting hotel guru.
Guests
Have you recently stayed in a British hotel whose owners were more Basil Fawlty than Rocco Forte? If you’ve got somewhere in mind that you think could do with a visit, email us at hotelinspector@twofour.co.uk with the name and location of the hotel and your reasons for nominating it. We won’t mention your name if you don’t want us to.
Hoteliers
We’d like to hear from hoteliers who would be interested in this unique opportunity to get valuable, non-nonsense advice that will boost profit margins, a cash injection to help with changes, as well promoting their hotel to a nationwide audience of millions.
Are you trying to improve standards at your hotel? Are your staff are a nightmare and you don’t know how to lead them? Have you perfected the product but are struggling with marketing? Maybe you just can’t get that restaurant right? Or despite your best efforts, has it all gone terribly wrong and you’re on the brink of throwing in the towel?
“We found it the most enjoyable experience. I am very grateful to the whole programme, and what it has done for my Bed and Breakfast.”
Francis Shelly, Butley Priory (Series 3 hotelier)
“I took the advice given by the Hotel Inspector and in the end they managed to place us in Alastair Sawday's "Special Places to Stay". We are now reaping the rewards.”
Robert Gray, St Alfeges Greenwich (Series 3 hotelier)
